Eligibility Criteria for OPSC Assistant Agriculture Engineer 2026

1. Educational Qualification

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture Engineering from a University or Institution recognised by a State Government or the Government of India.
  • No other equivalent branch (such as Civil or Mechanical Engineering) will be accepted.
  • Candidates must be Indian citizens and free from any current debarment by OPSC, UPSC, or another State PSC.
  • Certificate Cutoff Rule: Degree certificates, SC/ST caste certificates, Odia language certificates, disability proofs, and Ex-Servicemen release documents must all be issued on or before the online application submission date. SEBC certificates must have been issued on or after 29 August 2023. Women belonging to SEBC/SC/ST categories must present caste certificates showing "daughter of...", as certificates by marriage ("wife of...") are not accepted.

2. Mandatory Knowledge of Odia Language

Candidates must possess the ability to read, write, and speak Odia, validated through any one of the following criteria:

  • Passed Middle School examination with Odia as a language subject.
  • Passed Matriculation (or equivalent) with Odia as the medium of examination in a non-language subject.
  • Passed Class-VII with Odia as a language subject at a recognized school.
  • Passed an Odia test of Middle English School standard conducted by the School & Mass Education Department, Odisha, or BSE Odisha.

 

3. Age Limit & Relaxations (As on 01/01/2026)

Applicants must be between 21 and 42 years of age as on 1 January 2026 (born between 2 January 1984 and 1 January 2005). The date of birth on the High School Certificate is taken as authentic.

Selected candidates are appointed to a Class-II (Group-B) Gazetted post under the ORSP Rules, 2017:

  • Basic Pay: ₹44,900 per month (Level-10, Cell-1 of the Pay Matrix).
  • Pre-revised Scale: Pay Band-2 (₹9,300 – ₹34,800) with Grade Pay ₹4,600.
  • Allowances: Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), and other admissible state allowances sanctioned by the Government of Odisha.

Selection Process & Examination Pattern

Selection is based entirely on merit calculated across two progressive stages carrying a total of 225 marks:

  2. Personality Test / Viva-Voce: 25 Marks (Shortlisting ratio of roughly 1:2 of category vacancies, minimum 5 candidates).
